FOLKLORE FESTIVAL OF RIBEIRINHA

With the intention to celebrate this anniversary, The Ethnographic and Folkloric Group of Ribeirinha "Recordar e Conhecer" every year organize the Folklore Festival of Ribeirinha, in 1998 up to 2002 it took place in the Hall of Parties of the Casa do Povo da Ribeirinha. The first Folklore Festival of Ribeirinha was carried through in days 23 and 24 of May of 1998, for the commemorations of the 2nd Anniversary of the group.

The Headquarters of the Folkloric Group of Ribeirinha were inaugurated in 18 of May of 2003, and from this year the Folklore Festival of Ribeirinha started to organize itself in the Ethnographic Center of Ribeirinha.

The Folklore Festival of Ribeirinha is composed by fifteen Folkloric Groups of our Island playing an dancing our traditional songs and showing our typical garments in the way that our ancestor dressed and showing allusive agricultural utensils to farming, to the harvest , to the work of the land and others, It's the chance for tourists to be in contact with our people and to eyewitness a parade of an alive museum of garments of some social classes of our island of the XVI centuries and principles of the XX century. Its considered a very important event because it will congregate all the groups of our island, all we learn with each other, will be without a doubt a very important cultural enrichment.

In this Folklore Festival all of the 450 people paraded in garments of long ago in the times of our greats-grandmother, grandmothers and parents, its a gigantic human frame, the streets of this freguesia are an authentic sea of people that come of all the parts of our island, including emigrants and tourists, is healthful for the people who comes to have contact with our hospitable people, is certainly one different and cheerful afternoon for who visits us and also to be acquainted, of our customs, the culture, musics and the dances, and so identify the people that we are, and where we are from.

The windows and balconies of these streets are decorated with beautiful handmade regional bedspreads of many colours made for the magical hands of this people in the loom. In this Folklore Festival of Ribeirinha is very participated by the public due to the great diversity of animation that cheers this people.
