MUSEUM OF A TYPICAL HOUSE OF RIBEIRIHA


In 18 of May of 2003 this group inaugurated its Headquarters or Museum of a Typical house of the Ribeirinha or Terceira island. At 3,8Km of the city classified as World Heritage – Angra do Heroísmo, in it are more than five thousand parts, some of which with almost two centuries of existence. This Museum represents the living portrait of Ribeirinha, bringing to our days, habits, clothes, houses, furnishes and work instruments that made the everyday life in centuries XIX and XX. In the arrival we come across with a fountain where the cattle drink, tank of leftovers, sinks to wash clothes and even the arquinha with the car and pots where it carried the water, it was the meeting place of sweethearts. In this house there is 4 divisions of a typical agricultural house from Terceira, where are detailed the main traces of furniture diverse tables, to the drawers until the foot tables, the sun chairs in the back, on the tables, the towels of the loom, and remain pieces used at the time by our grandmothers and greats-grandmother, in short everything what was part of the everyday life of a country property, with the ethnographic and cultural concern. The Attic also called falsa had a wooden stair access to it where they placed the less frequently used objects. Has illumination devices from different times, presenting since the grizetas, diverse lamps, oil lamps with chimney already in glass, up to the electricity applied as in the first installations with twisted wire cord and ceramic switchs and lamps of the same time. The crafts also were not forgotten. There is also room for the mill with a pigeon house gage, treshing-floor, pitchforks, farm implements, cars, wagons and other utencils to work in the land, enhancing some aspects and details, we intend to supply some hints that will facilitate the discovery of all the cultural wealth displayed and, we are certain, the observer will find some curiosity that he heard his grandmothers to say, when these remembered the old times and utensils, the loom, the wicker basket, the sieve, bench of slaughter of the pig, the box of cloths with the linen bags and the measures of cereals in cedar wood, the old fashion doors and windows, latches, "picaporte" (door-knocker), door hinges. In this place this group does presentations of the regional slaughter of the pig, the corn husking, works in the treshing-floor, the cycle of the wool, the festiviess of The Holy Ghost, etc. To who visit us we offered the true ambience of a house of two centuries ago. This space is called Ethnographic Center of Ribeirinha. The intencion of this place is to portrait a genuine agricultural environment, starting in the construction, props and festive customs.

This Center runs the Shool of Arts and Traditional Crafts of Ribeirinha, this school have classes that are developed so that the crafts works don't be lost, such as the weaving, tapestries, arraiolos, embroiderings by hand and machine, musical string instruments, etc.

Passing the stairs to the oven, one comes across the clothes-line, the sink to wash the clothes, the curral of the hens and pig, on the top the bowls and pumpkins, retrete/casinha common name of the latrines, cess-pool and the house of the rabbits. This is reproduced with all the details.

In the following ward the visitor can observe the burra de milho where the maize are kept, house of the dog, and mouse traps.

In this Center in the Winter, a once a month, is promoted by the Casa da Cultura da Terceira (Terceira House of Culture) Concerts of Chamber Music with the duration of 30 minutes.
