"THE REIZES"

Of traditional festivities it is without a doubt the slaughter of the pig, the one where the people of Terceira island are by nature cheerful and playful, found its reason to expand its joy; it invited familiar and friends and distinguishing people to who it owe favours.

All killed their pig and the house of bigger abundance killed two or three. The slaughter was reason of general joy in the family, therefore all were prepared for the great day. The salting-tub, the earthen pan were prepared, the invitations were made, were prepared the aprons and cloths to clean the pig. In the eve the onions and the parsley were prepared and in the morning when the guest arrive, did not lack the coffee, the big cookies and the Portuguese brandy.

After the slaughter of the pig, the men played songs, the women entertained their self speaking of the other people's life and preparing the supper, while that the kids organized a soccer game, while the bladder of the pig did not break.

It was the total joy.

The people said: "Who never killed nor married, was never satisfied."
